John Baggio scored two goals as hosts Sukhothai picked up three points with a 3-2 victory over Chonburi in a Thai League 1 clash on Friday night at Thalay Luang Stadium.
Sukhothai went into the match with eight points, trailing the Sharks by two points.
Only 10 minutes into the first half, Sukhothai took the lead when Jakkrit Wechpirom opened the ball for Baggio to deftly chip it over Chonburi goalkeeper Patrik Deyto.
Chonburi equalised in the 21st minute when Amadou Outtara set up Yotsakorn Burapha.
Four minutes later it was the Sharks’s turn to claim the upper hand as Yotsakorn guided a Chatmongkol Ruangtanaroj free-kick into the net.
However, Chonburi’s joy didn’t last long as the hosts took only two minutes to level the score through another strike from Baggio.
Sukhothai got the third goal in the 33rd minute when a blistering shot from Chawasit Supsakulpol left the Chonburi goalkeeper helpless.
Chonburi tried to come back in the second half but the Sukhothai defenders held their ground well and the home team pulled off a 3-2 triumph.
