New titles that hit Thai cinemas for your viewing pleasure.

Crayon Shin-chan The Movie 30: Mononoke Ninja Chinpūden

Directed by Masakazu Hashimoto.

Who’s in it?

Yumiko Kobayashi, Miki Narahashi, Toshiyuki Morikawa and Satomi KĹŤroki.

What’s it about?

Chiyome Hesogakure has a child named ChinzĹŤ and she visits the Nohara family and claims that she is the real mother of Shinnosuke and takes him away to a Ninja Village. In the Ninja Village, the Hesogakure family has been protecting “the Earth’s navel” by blocking it with a pure gold stopper using the “Mononoke technique” that has been passed down from generation to generation. If it comes off, the Earth will wither, it’s rotation will stop and the “tomorrow” of the world will be lost. It is up to Shinnosuke to reveal the mystery of his birth and protect the future of the Earth and the “tomorrow” of his family.

Postman

Directed by Prueksa Amaruji.

Arak “Pae” Amornsupasiri, Worranit “Mook” Thawornwong, Tonhon “Ton” Tantivejakul and Jannine Weigel.

What’s it about?

A man has a duty to pass on messages to four different eras (Stone Age/Ban Rachan Era/Tom Yum Kung Crisis/Future World Era), creating a bond between human beings that is happy, sad, mixed with evil but impressive.

Why watch it?

A Thai sci-fi-drama, with hints of “Cloud Atlas”?


Strays

Directed by Josh Greenbaum.

Who’s in it?

The voices of Will Ferrell, Jamie Foxx and Isla Fisher.

What’s it about?

An abandoned dog teams up with other strays to get revenge on his former owner.

Why watch it?

Real dogs are used in 95% of the film.


The Nun

Directed by Corin Hardy.

Who’s in it?

Demián Bichir, Taissa Farmiga and Jonas Bloquet.

What’s it about?

When a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania takes her own life, a priest with a haunted past and a noviciate on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate. Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret. Risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls, they confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun that first terrorised audiences in “The Conjuring 2”, as the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned.

Why watch it?

It was released in 2018 and the sequel comes out next week.


Tokyo Revengers 2 Part 2 Decisive Battle

Directed by Tsutomu Hanabusa.

Who’s in it?

Keita Arai, Takumi Kitamura and Nijirô Murakami.

What’s it about?

Once again, Hinata is killed in front of Takemichi’s very eyes by the now-militarised Tokyo Manjikai. The key to saving Hinata lies in a “sad incident” that tears apart the six members of To-Majikai, each of whom is willing to die for their friends. Ichitora has become a member of the enemy side of the East Manji and Jaji has turned against the enemy. Why were these former best friends doomed to fight? Will Takemichi be able to return to the past and save Hinata and the future of his friends?

Why watch it?

The long-awaited sequel to “Tokyo Revengers” will be released in two parts, before and after the film.


Feng zai qi shi (Where The Wind Blows)

Directed by Philip Yung.

Who’s in it?

Aaron Kwok and Tony Leung Chiu-Wai.

What’s it about?

Follows Lui Lok, a police officer who decides to make a name for himself within the police force by controlling organised crime. A love letter to Hong Kong and its history.

Why watch it?

A 1960s-set period drama that features two of Asia’s biggest stars, the movie was previously titled “Theory Of Ambitions”.


Gran Turismo

Directed by Neill Blomkamp.

Who’s in it?

David Harbour, Orlando Bloom and Archie Madekwe.

What’s it about?

Based on the unbelievable, inspiring true story of a team of underdogs — a struggling, working-class gamer, a failed former race car driver, and an idealistic motorsport exec – who risk it all to take on the most elite sport in the world.

Why watch it?

Inspired by the real story of Jann Mardenborough, a Gran Turismo player who became a professional race car driver.


HOUSE SAMYAN

Shortcomings

What’s it about?

Follows a trio of young, Bay Area urbanites–Ben Tanaka, Miko Hayashi and Alice Kim–as they navigate a range of interpersonal relationships while traversing the country in search of the ideal connection.
