It has become a tradition for Johnnie Walker to paint the Chinese New Year celebrations blue with an exclusive bottle design for the Johnnie Walker Blue Label.
In celebration of the Year Of The Rabbit, the Scotch whisky brand collaborates with an emerging Chinese designer, Angel Chen, to create a collectable whisky bottle. For this year’s limited-edition Lunar New Year design of the Johnnie Walker Blue Label, the artist looked for meaningful inspiration based on the peppy characteristics of the rabbit. Her bottle is decked out with a white bunny motif that references Chinese art, set against a vibrant brushstroke background.
“There’s a defiant energy to my illustrations, which brings to life the vibrant spirit of the rabbit as it leaps across the design, symbolising how we need to keep moving forward and spreading goodness throughout the year to come”, says Chen.
On Jan 19, Johnnie Walker launched the bottle at the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok’s The China House. The event was an action-packed extravaganza, which kicked off with an EDM lion dance performance and a drag show. While guests were carried away by the unconventional dance of two led-lit lions, one of them surprised us by unveiling the Lunar New Year Johnnie Walker Blue Label from its mouth.
Johnnie Walker’s senior brand ambassador, Prawit “Pic” Boonnithipaisit, curated a whisky pairing with Chinese dishes, starring Johnnie Walker Aged 18 Years and Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve.
During the aerial silk show, the artist ended her performance by retrieving another festive bottle from a moon replica, bringing to light the limited edition Lunar New Year John Walker & Sons King George V. for Chinese New Year 2023. The John Walker & Sons King George V is also designed by Chen, embracing the same style as the Blue Label. However, instead of the rabbit, this one features a phoenix motif with warmer hues.
