Thai desserts at Ayatana.

Dusit Thani Kyoto opens with fine-dining highlight

Dusit Thani Kyoto officially celebrated its grand opening in September by unveiling Dusit’s unique brand of Thai-inspired hospitality and a range of exciting dining and wellness experiences including the hotel’s signature fine-dining restaurant Ayatana.

Conceived exclusively for the hotel by acclaimed Thai chefs Duangporn “Bo” Songvisava and Dylan Jones, who earned global recognition including a Michelin star at their former Bangkok restaurant Bo.Lan, Ayatana offers a sensory journey unlike any other.

Taking inspiration from the rich cultures of Thailand and Japan, every element of the restaurant has a story to tell, starting with the name — Ayatana — a Sanskrit word which in Buddhist philosophy refers to the six senses: sight, sound, scent, taste, touch and mind. Ayatana’s unique multisensory culinary journey integrates all of these senses to deliver dining experiences that excite and delight on multiple levels — delivering a symphony of sensations from start to finish.

The entire dinner experience takes around 2.5 hours.

Ayatana is open daily for dinner journeys (except Tue and Wed) from 5.30-10pm (last orders at 8pm). Prices start at ¥24,800 (6,000 baht) including tax and service charge.

W Sydney.

W Sydney elevates Darling Harbour

W Hotels has announced the highly anticipated opening of W Sydney. Located in a dramatic curved structure rising over Darling Harbour, W Sydney is set to become a coveted destination for travellers and Sydneysiders alike.

Located within The Ribbon and designed by acclaimed Australian architectural firm Hassell, W Sydney rises above the roadways to hug Darling Harbour. Its interiors are designed by London-based Bowler James Brindley, who conceived W Sydney through the authenticity of the city’s history, spirit and lore, from the marine-inspired rooms and suites to the distinctive restaurant and bars. At the heart of the hotel’s design story is “the larrikin”, a quintessentially Australian character whose strong spirit informs and inspires the hotel’s luxe yet unconventional interiors.

Located just steps from Sydney’s International Convention Centre, the hotel features 1,300m² of exceptional event space across eight versatile rooms. On level five, W Sydney’s 592m² pillarless Great Room features floor-to-ceiling windows that afford extraordinary views of the city. The design connects to the lively Darling Harbour setting, with light fittings and a graphic carpet that explode in a creative tribute to Sydney’s famous fireworks.
